New Portfolio Blog!
Sarah and I have put together portfolio blogs. We really like having sketch blogs for random artwork, but we thought it would be nice to have one spot with a portfolio. You can check them out here- Sarah's Portfolio (still being updated) and Catherine's Portfolio.

Figure Drawing Blues
Once a week, on Monday nights, a small group of us have been meeting for a figure drawing club during the school year. When it started out, it had some good turnouts. A few nights, the room was filled. It was a great time to see other artists, old schoolmates, and working professionals. This type of turnout was short lived. After a while, people's schedules interfered, and they stopped showing up. That's life. Today, a bunch of us found out that the club has been cancelled due to a lack of interest. This is such sad news. The past two weeks we've looked around the room (only about 4 of us there!) and were amazed that there were no students showing up. It has just been alumni taking advantage of free figure drawing. It makes me wonder if students are just too busy (I'm sure a lot of them are) or do many of them not understand the importance of figure drawing? Sadly, I believe this is the case with many of them. When my sister and I went through the animation program at school, we were shocked at the lack of drawing skills or even care about the fine arts that students had. Many weren't even familiar with art materials that we used in our work. I'm not sure if this is a recent attitude or not. With so much work being done on computers now, do students feel the need to learn the basics such as painting, sculpture, and drawing?
